Who We Are

Hunter Design & Build has been in operation since 2007. We started out as just two brothers, Adam and Mark Hunter, but have since increased our size to three. We are an eclectic group of hardworking and experienced individuals each with unique skills that contribute to our collective project success.

We have experience with a wide range of remodels/new builds and work extremely well both individually and collaboratively to ensure that your home renovation experience is as positive as possible. To achieve this, every member of our team aims to be transparent, open, and communicative throughout the process.

We are a design and build company. This means we are a design and build team that works cohesively together throughout the entire process of the remodel/new build. We believe the connection begins with our first site visit all the way through the completion of the last punch list item. The more eyes and minds going into the first designs leads to a well thought out finish for every aspect.

We are licensed, bonded and insured (documents available on request). Read below for our individual intros.

Adam Hunter

Adam's carpentry experience extends back many years. In his younger days, he spent a significant amount of time on the Hunter family farm working with his dad and on the side building a variety of devices and gadgets (most of which were used to attack Mark with).

Even more, Adam has spent plenty of time working on artistic endeavors that require a steady hand and fine carpentry skills. He utilized his art skills to land a job as a painter in the early 90's, which eventually landed him several jobs with other construction companies.

After many years shadowing various journeymen, Adam decided to join forces with Mark by cofounding Hunter Design & Build.

Generally, Adam maintains the daily job site tasks, communicates with and supports subcontractors, and is good at solving design or detailed challenges that arise.

Mark Hunter

Mark initially became interested in masonry and carpentry while volunteering with the Peace Corps in Jamaica. In Jamaica, he was able to help many people in a variety of ways, but he was not able to confidently help families with construction projects. Recognizing his weakness, he returned to the United States determined to learn the trades.

He began studying carpentry and started working with a nonprofit deconstruction company in Burlington, VT called Recycle North. He eventually came to manage Recycle North Youth Build (a great program that helps young adults acquire their GED and learn construction skills while building houses with Habitat for Humanity).

After saying a hard goodbye to Vermont, Mark returned to Seattle, purchased a house and started putting his new skills to use. While delving into renovating his own house he realized that he had a passion for building and teamed up with his brother Adam to create Hunter Design & Build.

Generally, Mark maintains numerous administrative tasks, provides estimates, fine tunes bids, coordinates with subcontractors and general project management. He typically plans design details for custom projects as well. Whenever possible he will also partake in the hard labor of any kind.

Jana Hunter

Jana joined HD & B when she realized her passion for everything home was on the forefront of her mind. A full house remodel probably had something to do with that shift. Mark and Adam graciously accepted her on the team after she decided to leave her 10 year teaching career as a 4th grade public school teacher. While her role took time to develop, she is now a project coordinator and designer, while also sprinkling in a few administrative tasks. Jana is married to Mark, which in turn means they can’t help but spend a lot of time talking about client remodels.
